Health & Wellness

At Anthem we actively promote a healthier way to live, and that starts with our own people. As a health care company, we know that helping our associates and their family members improve their health and well-being is part of who we are.

Taking care of one’s health can sometimes be difficult, so we seek solutions that make it easier. Our employees who try our innovative programs provide insights that help us deliver better offerings to our customers.

Workplace Wellness Challenges »

At Anthem, we keep wellness fun and encourage teamwork as we get healthy together through two annual challenges—the Fitness Challenge and the Healthy Start Challenge.

This online challenge helps associates begin the year right by setting health goals and breaking those goals down into weekly habits and lifestyle changes. It allows associates and their spouses and domestic partners to connect with others who share the same health goals and reap the benefits that a community of support can bring.

This annual challenge starts in late April and runs for eight weeks. It is a fun competition that encourages associates to get active. By logging exercise sessions of at least 30 minutes, associates travel across a virtual map of our company and compete to help their states win. Spouses and domestic partners are encouraged to join.

Local health fairs, community-sponsored events, and the National Walk at Lunch Day also help bring associates together and reinforce our culture of health.

Wellness Incentives »

Anthem’s wellness credit program is designed to focus on what’s important—our associates’ and their family members’ health. We want to support our associates and their spouses and domestic partners in their efforts to be healthy and reward them with credits toward the cost of medical coverage when they take care of their health.

Each year, we outline specific criteria that help our associates and their spouses and domestic partners qualify for wellness credits. When they meet these requirements and enroll in medical coverage through our benefit plans the following year, they receive credits toward the cost of that coverage. In 2016, four health areas determine whether a wellness credit is earned—up to a $700 annual credit for an associate and up to a $700 annual credit for a spouse or domestic partner. Together, that’s the opportunity to earn $1,400 toward the cost of their next year’s medical coverage.

Health and wellness is an important part of the associate experience at Anthem and our associates share their passion and personal stories to inspire others to lead healthier lives and participate in our wellness offerings and campaigns throughout the year.
